How to Install Shaders with OptiFine
OptiFine includes built-in shader support. Once OptiFine is installed, adding a shader pack is just dragging a .zip file into a folder and clicking it in the Video Settings menu.
Step-by-step
- 1Install OptiFine for your Minecraft version.
- 2Download a shader pack (a .zip file) from a trusted shader pack site.
- 3Open Minecraft and launch the OptiFine profile.
- 4Go to Options.
- 5Open Video Settings.
- 6Open the Shaders menu.
- 7Click Shaders Folder — this opens the shaderpacks folder in your file explorer.
- 8Move the shader .zip file into the folder.
- 9Back in Minecraft, click the shader name in the list to enable it.
Performance notes
Shaders are GPU-heavy. If your FPS drops, lower the shader's internal quality (most packs include Low / Medium / High profiles), reduce the Minecraft render distance, and disable optional effects like motion blur or volumetric clouds.
Pick a shader that matches your OptiFine version
Older shader packs may not work with newer OptiFine builds. Most pack pages list the supported OptiFine version range.
